Production company Legion M is pioneering several modes of operation: from crowdfunding that gives its contributors creative input and profit sharing to experimenting with VR resolutions that have never been attempted before.
Its goal with its first series Icons: Face to Face is to interview iconic and legendary subjects thereby allowing future users to be able to spend an intimate hour with them. Their first subject is Marvel co-founder Stan Lee as interviewed by Kevin Smith.
"We want it to be able to stand the test of time, not just culturally, but technologically, to survive as a historical record," Legion M co-founder and president Jeff Annison tells Fast Company. "Most VR footage today is disposable. We wanted something that could keep up with advancements in state of the art.
“We had this idea of trying to put you in the room with these legendary icons," Annison continues. "And we got Stan on board—miraculously. We pitched him this idea, and he really liked our model of a company owned by fans instead of a corporate conglomerate. In fact he said, ‘It’s such a good idea, I wish I’d thought of it myself!'”
