This Charming 4-Minute VR Musical Lets You Choose Which of 36 Characters to Follow

"Say It With Music" was created by students across 17 different programs at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). 3/10/2017 3:30 PM Eastern

The four-minute VR musical film "Say It With Music," the first of its kind, was created by students across 17 different programs at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

The short is about Simone, a waitress who uses music as an instrument of change to revive a monotonous fine dining restaurant and, in the process, makes an unexpected romantic connection with a waiter named Nathan.

Using sound cues to drive the narrative, the film immerses the audience in a 360-degree experience, with multiple plot lines captivating viewers in an unprecedented way. SCAD students created a custom camera rig combining five Sony FS7 cameras and six GoPros to capture every angle on set. The film was directed by Lubomir Kocka and Oliver Chen, and produced by Joshua Howard.

“The replayability factor of this is interesting,” Howard tells VRScout about allowing audience's to follow 36 different fleshed-out characters and storylines. “Because while the film may only last four minutes, if you want to watch every story arc and uncover all the details, it might be a 45-minute experience.”

"Say It With Music" is currently on the festival circuit. Check out a behind-the-scenes video below and read more here.
