AWS Elemental has announced it will make its official launch at the 2017 NAB Show this week.

In 2015, Amazon acquired Elemental for a reported half a billion US dollars. Under its new banner, AWS Elemental will offer fully cloud-enabled technologies for HDR, live channel playout, managing VOD libraries, frame accurate live-to-VOD functionality and cloud-based ingest services.

“AWS Elemental combines deep video processing expertise with the virtually limitless resources of the cloud to power our customers’ video processing workflows and give them the tools to perfect the media experience,” said Keith Wymbs, chief marketing officer for AWS Elemental, in a press release.

During NAB conference sessions, AWS Elemental’s Sam Blackman and Khawaja Shams will be part of a panel “Reaching for the Stars: Connecting to the Future with NASA and Hollywood". The company will show a groundbreaking 4K live stream from the International Space Station between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday April 26.

The live feed will be encoded by AWS Elemental encoding software on board the International Space Station and on the ground at Johnson Space Center. AWS Elemental will use an AWS workflow that includes AWS CloudWatch, Amazon Route 53, and Amazon CloudFront for public access in both 4K and HD.

The event will be available to the public in live 4K and down-converted HD video at https://live.awsevents.com/nasa4k. A video-on-demand asset will also be available after the event in lower resolutions on the NASA TV Channel and in both HD and 4K.

AWS Elemental will also sponsor its annual tradeshow sweat-fest, the 4K 4Charity Fun Run,which takes place on April 25.
